Red Cinnamon Candy Applesauce

This is a pretty dish to serve for the holidays.

9 cups Empire apples, peeled and cut into large chunks

1/2 cup water

1/3 cup white granulated sugar

1/4 cup red cinnamon candies

Place apples and water in a 2-quart saucepan.  Cook over medium heat until tender, about 10 minutes, stirring frequently.

Mash apples with potato masher and stir in the sugar and red cinnamon candies.

Continue cooking over low heat, stirring often until red cinnamon candies melt and the color is distributed throughout the applesauce.  Mash apples again if desired.

Take off heat.  Applesauce can be served warm or cold.  This recipe makes 4 cups of applesauce.
