Don't Look Back

As you travel through life there are always those times

When decisions just have to be made,

When the choices are hard, and solutions seem scarce,

And the rain seems to soak your parade.

There are some situations where all you can do

Is simply let go and move on,

Gather your courage and choose a direction

That carries you toward a new dawn.

Perhaps you'll find comfort in knowing your friends

Are supportive of all that you do,

And believe that whatever decisions you make, 

They'll be the right choices for you.

So keep putting one foot in front of the other,

And taking your life day by day . . .

There's a brighter tomorrow that's just down the road -

New Recipes for the New Year

This is the beginning of a new year and I wish all of you the best that life has to offer.  I thought that in this newsletter I would tell you about some of the new recipes that I have been making.  I am always trying new recipes and, as you might expect, not all of them are keepers.  I recently received a recipe for Potica that I have been wanting to get for awhile and that was a surprise and nice Christmas gift this year.  So, if you have any family favorites that you'd like to share, I hope you sent them my way.  Also, let me know what kind of recipes you'd like to see in this newsletter and any other ideas you might have.  I'm always up to trying new things.

I have added eight new recipes to my web site that I have been making.  Let me tell you about them and then you can visit the link to them.  My son Cary visited me at Christmas with his family and he raved about Kirk's chili.  It contains hamburger plus beef stew meat.  I got the recipe and tried it.  My son said it was close, so I guess I did okay.  I didn't have the bay leaves to put in it, or the can of beer that was recommended, but it turned out okay anyway.

I belong to About.com Home Cooking Forum and have tried some of their recipes.  I have included some of the better ones - Directions for how to make the Perfect Roast (interesting), Cherry Turkey Salad with Bleu Cheese and Pecans, and Cola Roast Beef. 

My friend Christine Cook had us over to her house the other day for dinner and she made a Cranberry Walnut Crumb Cake for dessert and it was good.  I had a bag of cranberries left in my refrigerator from Christmas, so I came home and whipped up a cake.  You could use other berries if you want to.

I have discovered how good Beef Brisket is.  It tastes a lot like chuck roast, only after it is cooked, I shred it.  It is easy to put some meat in a baggie and take to work, or fun to serve as a sandwich like beef on weck.  You can buy it near the corned beef in the meat department.  Make sure you don't buy the corned beef.  

My mother's friend gave her the recipe for cake mix cookies.  I tried them and took them to work and had lots of compliments.  I can't believe they have Cool Whip in them.  People seemed to like them.  You can use your favorite cake mix flavor.

A guy at work had me follow him to another office just so he could let me try his wife's Cashew Cookies.  They were frosted with a browned butter frosting and had a cashew on top - plus throughout the cookies.  I have included them plus all of the other recipes I talked about at:


I hope you look over the recipes and try them.  I have other new ones, but that's all I'm giving you for now.  Next time I think I'd like to have some new soup recipes in the newsletter as it is cold and snowy here in Western New York - it's going to be a long time before Spring.  If you have any great soup recipes you'd like to share with me and the subscribers (now about 40) to this newsletter, send them along.  Other favorite recipes will be appreciated also.
