Jan Zimmer submitted this recipe. She said she couldn't make enough of these when my son Cary was young. He always told me how good Jan's brownies were with chocolate chips; needless to say, they were his favorite.
1 cup butter, softened
12-oz.bag of Nestles chocolate chips (or white or dark)
1 cup white sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups flour, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking powder
Melt butter and chips (you can melt half of the chips with the butter and stir the rest of the chips in when the flour is added to make a chunkier brownie. Stir in sugar and eggs. Add flour, vanilla, and baking powder. Mix together. Spread in greased 9x13-inch pan. Bake 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Do not over bake. Brownies are done when a small amount of dough sticks to a toothpick when inserted.
Options: Add chips with flour instead of melting. This will make blonde brownies; add nuts; add 1/2 cup peanut butter; spread chocolate chips over hot baked brownies, wait 5 minutes or until melted, then spread. This will make frosted brownies.
